IBP Post-Implementation: Re-Energize Your IBP!

23. April 2024

Yesterday, we had our 54th IBP / IBSing call. Five breakout groups of IBP/S&OP practitioners analysed the typical issues post-implementation, identifying key barriers across Process, Tools, and People.

Our guest speaker, Debbie Evans, Head of IBP at Elanco, provided invaluable insights on overcoming these hurdles. Here are Debbie’s top 5 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐞𝐧𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐈𝐁𝐏 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐬:
1.      𝐒𝐞𝐭 𝐋𝐨𝐧𝐠-𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐦 𝐆𝐨𝐚𝐥𝐬: Establish clear, comprehensive goals across the entire IBP horizon and ensure leadership accountability.
2.      𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐒𝐮𝐩𝐩𝐥𝐲 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐢𝐧 𝐅𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬: Enhance core supply chain capabilities to support robust IBP frameworks.
3.      𝐅𝐨𝐜𝐮𝐬 𝐨𝐧 𝐑𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐯𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐃𝐞𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐥𝐬: Avoid getting bogged down in minutiae by maintaining an appropriate level of detail.
4.      𝐏𝐫𝐢𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐳𝐞 𝐃𝐚𝐭𝐚 𝐂𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠: Commit to cleaning your data systems—it’s a challenging but essential step toward integration and automation of IBP cycles.
5.      𝐄𝐦𝐩𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐑𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐏𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞: Shift from mere information sharing to making gap-closing recommendations during reviews.

By focusing on these areas, we can significantly improve the effectiveness of IBP systems and drive better business outcomes.

Thanks to Debbie and each individual participant for the insightful contributions!
