More than 20 years ago, in the early stage of my career, I was leading a production team. One day, the most senior leader on the site provided me with some unsolicited 1:1 feedback: โ๐๐๐จ๐ฉ๐ฅ๐ ๐ฌ๐๐ฒ, ๐ฒ๐จ๐ฎ ๐๐ซ๐ ๐ ๐ฐ๐ข๐ฆ๐ฉ!โ I was shocked!
Over the years, I fortunately came to realize that my behaviour observed by the leader and by colleagues was arising from a positive source of motivation. All I needed was to broaden my own understanding of my โ๐ฉ๐๐ซ๐๐๐ข๐ฏ๐๐โ ๐ฐ๐๐๐ค๐ง๐๐ฌ๐ฌ ๐ญ๐จ ๐ญ๐ฎ๐ซ๐ง ๐ข๐ญ ๐ข๐ง๐ญ๐จ ๐ฆ๐ฒ ๐ ๐ซ๐๐๐ญ๐๐ฌ๐ญ ๐ฉ๐๐ซ๐ฌ๐จ๐ง๐๐ฅ ๐๐ฌ๐ฌ๐๐ญ๐ฌ: compassion, humility, and a deliberate systematic approach. So instead of resisting my weakness, I started to better understand the value it brings and then consciously embraced that โshadowโ aspect of my personality.
This journey of self-discovery has been greatly facilitated by a ๐ฆ๐จ๐ญ๐ข๐ฏ๐๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง๐๐ฅ ๐ฆ๐จ๐๐๐ฅ ๐๐๐ฅ๐ฅ๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐ยฎ.
